Role Summary :
Belga Films, a leading Belgian Audiovisual Group specializing in film Distribution, Production, and Exhibition in the Benelux region, is seeking a Legal and Business Affairs professional to join their team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing legal functions and providing business advice to support the company's operations.
Primary Responsibilities :
• Perform and oversee all legal activities, including advising, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts related to corporate structuring, deal structuring, securities, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure due diligence and risk management, ensuring agreement terms align with market practices, company policies, and applicable laws.
• Provide counsel on government and regulatory matters, address complaints involving regulatory agencies, and participate in negotiations with government officials.
• Supervise and coordinate external attorneys' work, particularly on sensitive legal issues.
• Manage contractual relationships for Belga Films' catalogue, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements for rights acquisition and distribution across various platforms.
• Conduct research and interpretation of existing contracts, prepare contract summaries, and analyze contracts to support departmental and executive decision-making.
• Advise on digital sales business affairs matters, staying updated on digital market developments and recommending licensing terms for digital sales and new acquisitions.
• Research and monitoring of local and European grants and subsidies for distribution (Plan Media, etc.) and production.
• Drafting of contracts relating to the financing and production of films (including actors/directors)
Essential Qualifications :
• Master of Laws, ideally in Intellectual Property Law.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in the entertainment industry or a major law firm.
• Strong understanding of Business Affairs within the entertainment, television, and digital media sectors.
• Demonstrated negotiation, influencing, and legal/contracting experience.
• Genuine interest in entertainment and digital industries.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency in Excel and Word.
• Fluency in French and English, with the ability to draft legal clauses in these languages.
